  • Next Ethics conference set for Sept. 16

    The editors of Huffington Post and ProPublica head the list of featured speakers at the Next Ethics? conference on Sept. 16. The one-day Kent State-Poynter media ethics workshop is always an exciting, informative experience. Learn more and register for the conference here.

  • Digital frontier, struggling media:
    What do students need to learn?

    Our professions are changing. The economy still suffers. Journalism schools face hard questions about how to keep their course offerings current. We're leading the way in finding answers and preparing students for jobs in evolving media industries. Here's a report.

  • DKS, website win national Pacemakers

    JMC student media won prestigious Pacemaker awards from the Associated Collegiate Press. Both the Daily Kent Stater and the renamed KentWired.com earned awards, making KSU the only journalism program to win Pacemakers in both categories. Read more

  • JMC students, media win national SPJ awards

    Student media won national honors in the Mark of Excellence competition sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists. Winning first place national awards were Chris Sharron in the Editorial Cartooning category and the Daily Kent Stater Editorial Board in the Editorial Writing category. Placing as National Finalists in the competition were Tom Gallick, of the Stater, in Sports Column Writing and the staff of KentWired.com in the Online News Reporting category.

  • JMC students, faculty bringing in honors

    •The Kent State Advertising Club won third place at the District 5 National Student Advertising Competition.
    •Congratulations to John S. Knight Scholarship recipients: Regina Garcia Cano, Jessica Kanalas, Nicole Stempak and Ben Wolford.
    •Photojournalism students Tessa Bargainnier and Laura Torchia took second and third places in the ONPA College Photographer of the Year competition.
    •Advertising student Ben Langdon received top honors from the Cleveland chapter of the American Advertising Federation for his work representing the local Handsome Duckling/Advertising Club.

Franklin Hall

Franklin Hall Picture

In 1926, Franklin Hall opened as a modern teacher education building. Eighty-plus years later, it has had a complete overhaul and a new wing added to it. It's now the state-of-the-art home of Kent JMC with cutting edge facilities, including a shared student media newsroom, a high definition broadcast studio and control room, modern video and audio editing suites, and much more. And, it's still evolving to provide more services and facilities. Learn more about the facility here.
