What is JAOS?
JAOS exists to support the teachers and teaching of professional journalism
standards and practices in the state's secondary schools; to promote
First Amendment rights for student media and take action in the defense
of its continued preservation; and to encourage journalism professionals
and collegiate educators to value and promote secondary school media.
JAOS is a non-profit organization funded by members, friends and Kent State
University School of Journalism and Communication. For more information, call

When is this year’s conference?
JAOS will hold its annual conference in central Ohio in mid-December. Watch the
Web site under WORKSHOPS for exact time and location.
When do the contests take place?
JAOS is the only state competition that allows you to enter second
semester student work. Watch the Web site under NEWS AND AWARDS for
categories and submission
details. The deadline is JULY 1, 2005.
