How long will it take me to complete my
Masters degree?
Full-time graduate students usually finish
the program requirements in two years. Graduate students
are considered full-time if they are taking 8-16 credit
hours a semester. Students going part-time will take longer.
All students have six calendar years to finish all degree
requirements to receive their diploma.
What can Kent States graduate program
offer me?
Our program offers hands-on experience. Many
of the professional skills courses and electives require
writing stories for the student media. Kent State's program
also allows students to select appropriate electives with
the approval of their advisers. Electives may be taken outside
of the department in an area of interest. For example, a
student wishing to become a sports writer may select Contemporary
Sport Law as an elective from the School of Exercise,
Leisure and Sport.
What is the average graduate class size?
Class sizes vary because some core courses
and electives include both undergraduate and graduate students,
while some classes are only offered at the graduate level.
In Spring 2002, classes with both undergraduate and graduate
students average 20 students and classes offered only at
the graduate level average 7 students.
What can I do with my master's degree?
For students already employed in the journalism
field, obtaining a master's degree often offers them options
for promotion, teaching and advancing to doctoral work.
A masters degree in offers other students the opportunity
to switch careers or acquire a job with more responsibilities
than an entry-level position.
How much would it cost me?
Fees for Fall 2002 are projected to be approximately
$309 per graduate credit hour for in-state students and
$580 per graduate credit hour for out-of-state students,
