After graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor's
Degree in English and philosophy from John
Carroll University in Cleveland, Blase began
working as an advertising copywriter and
technical writer at Leblond, Inc. (now Leblond/Makino,
Inc.). Leblond/Makino is a multinational
capital goods manufacturer in Cincinnati that
markets their products worldwide. He was
promoted to Assistant Advertising Manager and
then to Advertising Manager, overseeing a
department of seven people and handling the
marketing, advertising and public relations
account coordination duties for the company's
entire product line.
In
1978, Blase left Leblond/Makino to become
Advertising Manager for Xomox Corporation, a
multinational fluid flow control manufacturer
in Cincinnati. His responsibilities included
managing an in-house advertising agency that
produced the creative, media planning and
public relations for the company's many
different product lines. He was also involved
in new business development and product
forecasting.
In
1981, while working full-time at Xomox
Corporation, Blase began work on a master's
degree at Xavier University in Cincinnati. He
received his master's degree in English in
1985.
After
seven years at Xomox Corporation, Blase, fed
up with the corporate world, moved to
northeast Ohio to become an assistant
professor of advertising in the School of
Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent
State University. He served as the Advertising
Sequence coordinator for 10 years. He teaches
Principles of Advertising, Advertising
Copywriting, Advertising Media Planning,
Advertising Campaigns and Ethics and Issues in
Mass Communication. From 1986 to 1988 he
served as the Assistant to the Director of the
School, taking on more administrative duties.
In 1995, in addition to teaching, he was made
Undergraduate Coordinator. This position
oversees advising and curricular
administration for the School.
From
1988 to 1991 Blase was a part-time consultant
with the Gibson Network which specializes in
providing marketing and creative support to
entrepreneurial companies that have venture
capital backing.
Blase
has been a member of the Advertising Club of
Cleveland, a former board member of the
Advertising Club of Akron and member of the
Point of Purchase Institute. |
