Dave Foster

I'm a junior photojournalism student at Kent State, and I’m Nikon.

Ever since I heard the phrase, "Do what you love and then try to make money at it," I knew photography would be my life.

I interned during the summer of 2006 at the Akron Beacon Journal, won ONPA Student Photographer of the Year for 2006, received the Henry Beck Scholarship and placed 12th in the Hearst Competition for sports and spot news.

Interests outside of photography include consuming as much music as possible while learning to play music on various instruments and tennis.

After college I hope to gain experience in the newspaper business while trying to branch out into work overseas and work on personal projects.

For me, photography has been a source of constant motivation and inspiration. If it has taught me anything it’s that you have to be a human before you can be a photographer. An image may be made in an instant, but the connection the photographer might make takes much longer.

Another reason for my passion of photography comes from the photographers near me. Having a community to share, discuss, and critique images in good company assures me my pictures won’t be confined to my desktop.
