THE OLD MAN IN THE SKY
At 88-years-old most people are enjoying their golden years relaxing on a beach in Florida. Woody Faison, on the other hand, spends his days flying through the clouds over Charleston South Carolina. Refusing to be told he’s too old to fly, the octogenarian and retired airforce colonel, teaches up to four lessons a day to people of all age and skill level at the Palmetto Air Service.
A native of North Carolina, Faison first came to Charleston to attend the Citadel, which he graduated from in 1939. He spent 28 years in the military after graduating from flight school in 1942. Throughout this career, Faison has flown and lived all around the world and he has numerous stories to prove it. Faison began teaching flying in Charleston in 1968.
